For anyone who owns this backhoe for their BX, can you tell me if the stabilizers are in the up or down position for storage (when off the tractor)? In looking through the owners/installation manual, it shows a pic of the BH6000 in the storage position with the stabilizers up. Per my dealer, the Kubota BH on the BX25 stores with the stabilzers down or out. If the Woods stores with the stabilzers in the up position, I might be able to get it in my shed and not have to store it outside.

Still thinking about buying the Woods BH for my BX1860 or trading up to a BX25. Thought I had my BX sold last weekend, but the guy backed out at the last minute. Thanks

You need to have the stabilizers down to take it OFF the tractor. It does not need to be down for storage. I would HATE to leave it down due to rusting of chrome on the cylinders. I always retract them after taking it off the BX24. Same would go for BX25.

Hey, thanks for that info. I knew they had to be down for removal, but they said that they stay down and out for storage too on the BX25. So the BH won't fall over with the stabilizers retracted? Good to know. Thought this was a difference between the two models. Also, forgot to ask, does your BX have float on the boom control valve position? The Woods does.

Chris - You may have already seen one of these but I would suggest the BXpanded backhoe dolly for what you need Backhoe Storage Dolly. The stabilizers are stored in the up position since the dolly supports the BH from tipping over. Once you have removed the BH, you can wheel the dolly to a storage position of your choice. Attached is a picture of my BH using the BXpanded dolly.

Tod, thanks for the pic. I would definitely need to buy or make a backhoe and loader dolly so I could move each to a corner of my shed where it would be impossible to mount or dismount them, but it wouldn't work if the stabilizers had to be down. I would guess the BXpanded BH dolly would work for the Woods hoe and if not, I'm sure it would with a little modification. By the way, does your BX backhoe have float on the boom circuit?

Was reading a Cub Cadet Yanmar brochure where they seemed to make a big deal of that feature on their SC2450, but it turns out Woods also has it and I'm guessing so does Kubota.

Chris, I have to show my lack of knowledge on your question about having a float feature on the boom circuit. If it has it, I've never accidentally found it or read it in the manual. Hopefully someone else can confirm if it has it or not.

Maybe Harry (BXpanded) will chime in on this thread on whether he has tested his dolly with the Woods hoe.

One item that I want to point out about my picture, that I have taken care of, is that the bungee cord holding the stabilizers up isn't the best solution. It never leaked down but I now use a ratchet strap for extra insurance.

I think you would be far better off getting a BX and the BXpanded dolly. The dolly is the only way to take off the hoe. It is made specifically for the BX hoe so talk to them before you get one for a woods unit. I feel stupid but I don't know how float would work on a backhoe and I am on my second one!

The Woods BH6000 is a bit more persnickety to get on than the Kubota bh that comes on a BX 22, 23, 24, 25. I made the holes in the stabilizer pads a bit larger and use bolt on wheels. I also built bolt on skateboards for the end of the boom and the base of the bh body. This allows me to move everything easily into precise alignment when reattaching. I use a compression strap to prevent the stabilizers from dropping due to bleed down.

This has been discussed a kazillion times, but if you already have a BX with 4 digits, adding the Woods is the way to go. If you do not have a BX and are buying new, getting the BX with 2 digits (bh comes with it) is the way to go. You do not need a bigger BX to use this bh. Here's a BX1500 moving boulders and digging out stumps with this same bh:

I have dealt with taking a backhoe off and on for several years now, not on a BX and not the backhoe mentioned, here is what experience has taught me:

rust has not been an issue at all in more than 15 years.

seams like they always settle, and more times than not, have fallen down after a few months. (this is with trying to support it up on the big chimney blocks or a tire rim and a few other things)

I'd say put some plywood down tho keep it out of the dirt (not that matters either) and settle it down. next spring (or whenever) let the hydraulics lift it back up and put it in position to remount.

Thanks guys for responding. On the float position, I believe if you have it there would be a detent on the stick that controls the boom raise/lower. For anyone with a BX, if you could push the stick to the boom lower position hard and see if it goes into a detent (stays in the lowering position). If so, it would have the float feature. In reading the Woods manual (downloaded it from their site), it states something about using float to dig a flat bottomed trench, if I recall correctly. I suppose putting the boom in float you can dig with the dipperstick and bucket and the boom will float up an down as necessary.

Tom, I totally agree with you but Woods has fallen down on the job of late. They do not show a subframe for my BX1860, nor for the 2360, but do for the 2660. They do show a subframe for the older BX1850 and 2350, however. I called their tech support line and was basically told if my model wasn't listed, they didn't have a BH for it. The guy basically wanted to get off the phone as fast as he could. Very disappointing. Not totally deterred, I tried working through a local dealer who called and e-mailed Woods engineering. He was trying to get some measurements on the BX1850 sub frame thinking it probably didn't change with the BX1860. After 3 weeks we gave up. He couldn't get a response.

Coincident with all this I got some quotes on trading in on a BX25 and also put my 1860 for sale on CL. I had it sold last week until the guy called Saturday morning and backed out. So, I've now gone to looking up the frame part numbers on the BX1850 and 1860 and low and behold they are the same, so I'm 99% sure it should fit. Nevertheless, if I buy the Woods BH and it doesn't fit, it's my dime to ship it back plus pay restocking fees. An expensive mistake albeit a remote one.

I could trade in my 1860 next week to get the current Kubota 0%/60 month deal, but the trade in quotes would leave me feeling a little used.

Oh, by the way, for anyone considering the Woods unit, it now comes with bosses formed into the dipperstick for a pin on Woods thumb, which I like better than having to get a bolt on one for the BX.

Decisions, decisions. Stay tuned.
