When I was hooking up some work lights a while back, I used one of the red wires under the seat (not the factory one for aux. lights) to power a cigarette lighter socket. I wired the neutral to the frame by attaching to a bolt that held a hydro line bracket for the rear remote line. When I plugged in a radar detector to the socket (no, I don't mow that fast, I was just testing it), it worked fine, but when I plugged in a 55 watt work light, the "HST" indicator light came on, but the light worked too. This light is right below the glow plug, battery and ignition lamps on the dash. I went through my manual and it doesn't explain what the "HST" light means. Any ideas?
I would imagine it's an overtemperature light for the trans. Your setup is backfeeding current into the light. I'd move the ground to another location.
If you're talking about the red/wht wire in with the blue/wht for the aux lighting it is for the hydro tranny temp sensor. If you ground it out (ie. light in place) it causes the hst indicator to light. This indicator isn't used on the BX tractors as there is no overtemp sensor but the light/dash/wiring is just part of the harness.
It might be used on the European versions /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
I don't suggest using it for aux power, use the intended.
That does not sound like the wire I originally used. The one I first tried was solid red and had a female socket quick connect end on it. I'll still probably reconnect a lighter socket to this wire for hooking up additional hand held lights, radios, radar detectors, etc. I'll just ground it to the fender. Thanks for all the helpful info, everyone.
I was going to say the same thing as pcmen but he beat me to it. There is a Kubota bulletin on this very problem. The wiring harness is set up for a hyd. sensor(European models have sensor. USA does not). So if you plug wires together or ground one out the light comes on.
Where is the sensor mounted on the European model and is there a provision for installing it in the US version? Possibly this is an upgrade that should be considered? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
As JacknCoke afirmed, there are three connectors under the BX seat, one male, two female. The blue & blk female\male pair are for the aux. lights. The red female is for the HST temp sensor which is not used in the US.

My BX-22 had two reds and a black...one red was switched; the other not.
