For those interested, I installed the radio in the cab of my L5030, and took some pics to document the process. It was simple & straightforward, and I now can enjoy some tunes outside of just my iPod. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Hopefully, some others find this useful. There are comments under each picture that provide further details.

Later,
Jay

Couple of things I might add:

It is not exactly a No.4 Reed & Prince screw head and it would be advisable to grind the pointed end of the R&P (Phillips) screwdriver off a bit or if the screws are really tight you will stand a chance of buggering up the head before it comes loose.

The hole in the lower inside roof panel is designed for any DIN I chassis and finally, If you use another antenna other than the OEM one and the lead wire is loose in the grommet, either change the grommet or put some silicone around the lead in to fill the gap or moisture (like when you wash your tractor) will get in.

5030,

What is a "DIN I" chassis?

Thanx

RFB:

DIN I refers to the standard dimension of the chassis as it fits in the hole/cutout provided by the oem vehicle manufacturer. I think you have DIN I, DIN II and Double DIN. If you get a new radio, it will state right on the specs which DIN it is. Don't have a clue what DIN stands for though. Kubota's all take DIN I chassis. How about Dumb Intuition Notwithstanding?? /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Thanx Daryl,

btw, did you happen to see my post "Noob Q's". I was hoping to get some input from you on my questions.

Jay, nicely done, thanks for the step-by-step. Do you know if anyone is making a marine grade cd player/radio with SAME("Specific Area Message Encoding") weather capability?

MODiesel (Jay), thanks for taking the time to document the radio installation process. I plan to put a radio in my Grand L and your post with the step-by-step images takes the mystery out of the procedure!
And, thanks also to 5030 (Daryl) for the addendums.

Just a FYI ... DIN stands for "Deutsche Industrie Norm"

2 1/8" (50mm) tall and 7 1/8" (180mm) wide

Some Jap cars have "double-DIN" (100mm tall) and GM and Chrysler are doing "DIN and a half" lately (75 mm tall)

SnoFalls:

I knew someone here would know what DIN stood for. Another chink for globalization

Wow! Thanks Jay for all the useful information and photos. I am going to install a radio in my L3430 HSTC this spring and this thread will definitely be pre-installation reading. I was comtemplating using my LAN checker to ID each wire. However, thanks for doing all the work.

Jay,

Awesome illustration! You did a great job with the details as everything is very neat. I wish I could have seen this prior to having my system installed as it would have saved me money!

Thanks!
