Well, its finally happened. After adjusting the freeplay as much as I could, the tractor takes a few moments when climbing a slight hill or hard turn. Moving on a flat surface is fine.

A mechanic friend and I are going to attempt a clutch replacement. I have the big service manual and will be looking for a clutch. Why is price of these all over the place? The part number is SBA320040615 right? (according to the NW online parts guide)

Farmland Tractor supply $759
Ford/New Holland 9-1/2in Clutch Unit - Reman

Messicks: $2133

Tractor Clutch Zone $283
Pressure Plate Assembly for Ford/New Holland 1920 (Part #SBA320040615) | TractorClutchZone.com

Highway and Heavy parts: $260

I don't know where you live but here in Hickory we have a company that can rebuild your clutch for you...
This could be a viable option for you that could save you some coin...

I don't need that service, but it would be nice to know that company's name should the need ever arise.

I wonder if some of those prices are for a single clutch assembly. If it were me I would get it apart and see if you could just replace the disc for the transmission. Your pressure plate could be fine. I also would check localy to see if yours could be rebuilt.

Yeah, I tried to find someone to rebuild locally here is S.E. Michigan. No dice. My local New Holland dealer already ball parked me $2000 for the clutch and $1000 for the labor. OUCH.

All the part numbers match the double clutch from the N.H site. I'll call them to make sure. Maybe the cheaper ones are after markets.

Google clutch rebuilders in Michigan. I came up with quite a few but don't know exactly where you are. If you know any one into racing or truck pulling they could probably tell you where to go.

The clutch got here along with the throughout bearing. All the rebuilders I called wanted to order parts or take a week to do it.

Got it from Tractorclutchzone.com (and fast too).

Looks like what the book says.

Here goes nothing.

Is that the one that was $283. I hope it works out great because that is the same clutch my tractor uses. Keep us posted.

Good information and thanks for sharing:) the disk housing appears to be of some cast material. is it cast Iron by any chance? how is the fit and finish? is there any core charge for your old housing? Do you know if the new housing you have a reman/ cleaned up old one. If you end up splinting the old clutch for a look inside then I'd appreciate if you share some pics. I'm interested in separation of 1st and second clutch disk and common mechanism that engages the clutch and adjustment on it.
