Grease Guns

I dont even know what kind I have, it was just what the local farm and feed store had. Works well enough for me. That reminds me, I am out of grease.

Edit: this is my 800th post :D

I bought a elcheapo $24 pneumatic gun from Atwoods (dont remember the brand) but it works well for me. They had 2 models, one at $20 that I took back and swapped for this one because it wouldnt put any pressure out. Only problem is it doesnt clear air locks very well so you have to make sure you dont leave any air in it when you change cylinders. Other than that issue, it works great and so far I havent found any thing that a hand gun would put grease into that this one wont.
Sure glad I had it a few days ago when greasing my BIL lawnmower spindles for the first time. It took a whole tube of grease to fill those things up before some grease started coming out. I dont know if that was the right way or not, but that is the way I have always greased stuff, pump it till some comes out somewhere.

Here are some of the best made. How about 15,000 lb pressure at the head on the high pressure model WOW.

They are made with brass heads.

This is the grease gun you leave to your kids when your long gone.

Yep, Mike_VT hit it square on the head, I trashed the Harbor Freight P'sOS and bought a Pnuematic Lincoln. Thanx Cat_Driver and others for chipping into this post. For some it is mundain and elementary, to others it is a ticket into first grade from tractor-kindergarden.

My trick of hanging the Pnuematic Lincoln w/ a strap over my shoulder works well, still. It gives me 2 hands to deal w/ the nozzle and a rag.

Now I am learning how to do clean up! The pressure washer is fine if you can aim so it blows the grease to the ground. I am thinking I just need to use rags. I hate mess'es but looks like I am going to have to live w/ them. I envy you guys w/ trailer queens....wait, NO I DO NOT ! LOL! I use the diss out of my tractor and scratches are badges of honor!

Dad bought a new Alemite around 1960. I still use it at times, for certain things. It's a suction load model, and still trying to use up all those partial buckets of bulk grease he picked up at auctions over the years. :)

I bought an Ingersoll Rand Pistol grease gun 5 years ago for $37.00 when I had my 185 compressor serviced, Love it. I much prefer it over my old 3 handed lever action. Yes, I know the hose locks on to the fittings, but a pistol is much more convinent for me.

Well I took my own advice and purchased a :
Battery Powered Grease Guns - Alemite

I can say that this is the best grease gun I have ever used. Last time I grease with the Lincoln grease gun, both pneumatic and electric, I wasn't able to get grease in some of the zerks.

I just got home from using my new gun, and it was never stopped by a zerk. The funnies thing I ever saw was - I shot grease in the bucket hinges and it actually BLEW dust out the other end before the grease came out. Can you imagine that a puff of dust came out of the pin. Man the power this gun has.

I read some "complaints" on the gun that it puts out TOO MUCH grease. WHAT, too much grease, is there such a thing.

I think this is the first time I was ever able to blow through a tube of grease so painlessly.

I know in the past if I has too much hassle with a zerk I would just move on. Not anymore. I went from zerk to zerk and gave it a blast and saw the fresh stuff come out and I moved to the next and to the next never skipping a beat.

I was done so fast I hardly knew what to do with all the extra time I had.

Yes it cost a lot of money, but you know what, It ends up cheaper than buying the four other grease guns that don't do the job.

If you have a good grease gun there is no need to upgrade but to the guy reading this that had yet started on the road to buying several bad grease guns, then use this advice and buy the best first, you won't regret it. I wish this existed before I started throwing my money down the sewer.

My Father bought a Alemite grease gun in mid '40's to use with a threasing machine. and before the tube type container of today. There is no way could add up the number of 5 gal. buckets of grease I have used to this day. Still never have any problems.
If the zerk is plugged it will force the grease in with little additional pressure.
Have a couple of grease guns given to me just put on shelf. or give to some one else.

I got this thing whipped now by Golly! HA! I am sure everyone has issue getting
the grease tip, off of the zerk fitting from time to time even if you know the grease tip is adjustable,
and I bet ya' many of ya'll wished
there was a silly handle to hold onto to, to pull on, to get it off the zerk,
and your hands are greasie and things are slippin' and you just do not need that hassle! well, I MADE ONE and it is so, very,
simple...

I just added inline a brass cross w/ a couple of nipples and caps and a shortie
hose. Piece of cake! Combine that w/ the over the shoulder strap for it all and
greasing is a whole new, and MUCH EASIER world...:thumbsup:
