Looks real nice.
Not to stir the pot, but it looks similar to the one I tore down a few years back. It was built like a brick #$%@@!! house and was real pain to tear down. Some may be asking why take it down if it was built so well. I needed a place with a cement floor, electricity and much taller inside. I was thinking of "lifting the barn up about a foot so I could gain some room and then adding cement and power and resurfacing the whole thing. They had painted particle board on the exterior. Sometime it's easier to start over.
But hey other those few minor flaws the thing wasn't going no where.

Thought I'd throw up a couple of pictures, for those that are following this thread. If you are following this, I appreciate your patience, I've been just too busy with other commitments to really get much of anything done, the entire month of Feb. was a bust. But, with it being light till 7 or so now, and the weather clearing up, things should progress a bit faster.

Lean to roof framing is complete and ready for sheeting.

Center section in progress. I got all of the double rafter purlin blocks in today and hung all of the center (of the center roof) purlins by dark tonight.

Some of the OSB went up last weekend, but by the time I finished up for the day, got all the tools put away, and had a beer or two it was too dark to take progress pictures. I'll be doing more of the same this week and this weekend, I'm sure I'll get some pictures up before next week this time.

On a side note, I'll be glad when the metal is up and the vast majority of this ladder work is done. Waiting till I'm done for the night to crack the first cold beer is just awful.

SteelDust,

Looks like you're going to have a lot of takers on your barn. I started construction on my duplication of yours this past weekend and will start a thread on it once I find enough time to write something up and post some pics.

And you're right...nut'n like sit'n down with a cold one after a long day of building something!

It's Beautiful!

Thanks for taking the time to post this project. I am sure you have made many folks very happy. I for one am one of them.

Now for a little negativity...did I miss price? Or are you keeping that a trade secret ;~)

Just wondering, because I too am looking at your project with great interest in duplicating. I can't wait to see the finished product.

Again beautiful job, keep those pics and posts coming, I know I appreciate it, even if I will not be able to get to building this year...but I hope so.

As far as the price...I'm pretty much buying as I go. When I did my 2006 taxes I added up all the receipts and I was just short $4000. That was for the poles, 36 yards of rock, bobcat rental, the loft framing, most of the purlins, and the loft decking. I'd say I've spent another $750 in lumber, and misc. so far this year.

I've got another $500 or so to spend in roof and wall sheeting, probably another $500 or so in misc. framing lumber.

I just priced roofing again and I'm glad I waited, the metal itself was $1250. Ridge cap and trim will push it to about $1600ish. I'll put the order in next Tues.

The full cedar siding is probably going to run around $2000, if I decide to wrap the stall walls in it. I haven't committed to the stalls in cedar yet. I still have one connection that might be able to get me reasonably priced 2" T&G fir.

Grand total should come in right around $11,000, give or take. Maybe a bit more by the time I frame in a heated tack room, build stairs to the loft, run the electrical, plumbing, stall mats, and all the other finishing touches.

Here's a quick picture update. Progress is slow but steady. Some of the OSB is up. To my relief the entire roof is only out about 1/4" over the 39 feet. The OSB went up easy and the metal is going to be a breeze. I measured and remeasured, but there's always doubt..haha.

I'm amazed at how many uses I find for these pallet forks. If you don't have them yet, they should be on your "wish" list. Eliminated the need to haul each sheet up the ladder.

Took these today, after getting the second side done yesterday. I previously discussed bracing all the posts before the roof sheeting went up. I'm comfortable with the way it stands now, we are well out of windstorm season here and the building is amazingly solid despite having any of the wall girts or sheeting up.

This week I'll get the remaining 3/4" bolts in place and hopefully get the blocking in between the end purlins on the top section of roof. Supposed to go clam digging next weekend, so the center OSB is going to have to wait. Spring salmon season slowed me up a bit as well, but a mans got to have his priorities.
