    MF35 + Davis 99 loader valve

Our house and outbuilding were destroyed by a tornado last Friday. My wife and I were home with four of the kids and thankfully there were no injuries. The MF35 Utility survived, despite the building around it being blown away, with the lights broken off and the loader control valve for the...

    MF35 / Davis 99 loader valve

Hi Greg, I bought a new valve but have not installed it yet. I am no expert but I have not seen a valve fail like that. Have you disconnected the output lines from the valve and seen what happens when you move the control lever? I disassembled my valve a couple times over the years. They're...

    MF35 / Davis 99 loader valve

Thanks Harry, I appreciate the reply. Not sure which way I'll go yet but I'll post here if & when I make progress with a new valve.

    MF35 / Davis 99 loader valve

Hey guys, I recently posted in the Hydraulics forum but haven't gotten replies yet. I'm hoping that by posting here in the MF forum, I can direct some attention to my post over there (click here). My loader valve needs replaced. See the other post for details. Thanks!

MF35 - DA valve for SA lift cylinders

I have a Massey Ferguson 35 Utility tractor with a Davis 99 loader. The bucket sags off with any load on it and my testing shows that it's the control valve, not the cylinder. I was reading another thread about running single action cylinders on a double action valve. The consensus seems to be...

    MF35 gas - valve adjustment

Looks like I have to spin the engine on the starter to get it positioned correctly. I checked #1 cylinder so far and clearance (cold) is .010 on both intake and exhaust, so they need adjustment. This thread has a good description of the adjustment procedure...

    MF35 gas - valve adjustment

Yes, it's the same for both intake and exhaust. How can I turn the engine? I would normally go for the crankshaft pulley but there's a shaft and hydraulic pump on the front of the tractor. There's no pulley bolt to put a socket on.

    MF35 gas - valve adjustment

Your reply reminded me that I do in fact have an IT manual on the shelf! I totally forgot it was there. It's .015 cold and .013 hot. I know what I'll be doing tonight...

    MF35 gas - valve adjustment

I took the fuel tank off my MF35 to (try to) repair a leak. Ouch, it gets expensive when gas is leaking out of there! I see the valve covers are now accessible. Does the gas engine require periodic valve adjustment? If so, I might as well do it while the tank is out. I checked the service...

    Finally ... I'm back!

Hey Patrick, welcome back! It's good to see you here again  I'm glad to hear you all are doing fairly well, all things considering. We're still here in the central USA, watching events unfold all around us and occasionally getting in some therapy in the form of tractor time. The MF35...

MF35 Utility - Power Steering seal

It's back together and running! I filled it with UTF from the local farm store. Shaeff (or anyone else with the same tractor), how much assist do you get from your power steering? When I have the loader bucket in the air, I can turn the steering wheel with medium resistance -- like almost...

MF35 Utility - Power Steering seal

Nevermind. The center port (part #4 - Core, Reservoir) spins out. We put a cut down bolt though the sideways holes in it and used a large socket to unscrew it. Now I'm fighting that whole lid, bolt, spring, fiber washer, filter setup. What a pain! Just checking and adding fluid is a major...

MF35 Utility - Power Steering seal

I received the O-ring - thanks! I found pictures of the pump on Welcome to AGCO Parts Books which is quite an amazing resource. The diagrams there are extremely helpful. I'm pretty sure the o-ring is part #27 on the diagram but I can't figure out what's holding the reservoir on the pump. I...

MF35 Utility - Power Steering seal

I finally got the pump disassembled. Getting the gear off the shaft was a minor pain until I found the right puller - I think it was a tie rod end puller. Then it popped right off. I found the gear was wearing into the pump housing where the seal is. Apparently this is because the retaining...

MF35 Utility - Power Steering seal

Ha, I just checked my filter and found out there isn't one! So I guess this is a good time to "replace it"! What kind of oil do you run in the power steering system?

MF35 Utility - Power Steering seal

Hi Shaeff, Thanks for the replies and it's good to hear from you again :) I have never replaced the filter and will order one of those, plus the gasket that mounts the pump to the tractor. Anything else you can think of? I'm hoping to time this seal replacement at a time when no snow is in...

    Massey 35 plugs

I did not change the coil or the wires when I switched to electronic ignition. I figured I'd try it first and then spend the additional money only if it was necessary. That was several years ago...

    Massey 35 plugs

I can't speak directly about your TVO35 but when I put electronic ignition on my MF35 it was a dramatic improvement. I stopped fouling plugs and it starts and runs better than it used to with points. For me it was money well spent.

MF35 Utility - Power Steering seal

My MF35 Utility (gas engine) leaks power steering fluid. I suspect it's going into the crankcase. I have googled for a replacement seal but am not sure if the MF35 utility uses the same power steering pump as the regular MF35. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Is it a difficult...

    MF35 headlight options

I am replacing the headlights on my MF35 utility. Again. They used to look like this. Then they got crushed when a wind storm blew in the overhead door, which then landed on the tractor and took out the lights. So I bought a pair of these and mounted them in the same place, on top of the...

MF35 broken starter and snowed in!

Back in business. Just finished cleaning up what the road grader put across our driveway again. I gotta say, for being nearly 50 years old, this is still a very useful machine. A little rough around the edges and not very pretty, but she gets the job done.

MF35 broken starter and snowed in!

We got buried last night by snow and high winds. When I tried to start the MF35 utility (gas), I heard a clunk and then after that the starter just spins without engaging anything. I pulled the starter and this is what I see. Am I missing the gear drive from the starter shaft or is something...

    Cutting torches - need help

I have an oxy-acetylene tank set with a welding torch on it. It's the leftmost torch in the picture, the one connected to the hoses with some pieces of electrical tape on them  I use that torch to heat bolts and such but it's not a cutting torch. I have these two Victor torches as well but...

MF35 Utility - repairs for winter

The matter on the screen was actually SOLID. It was like a sealant that had dried on the screen or something. I had to gently clean it off using the wire brush in the grinder. I then put the screen back on and put some new hyd fluid in the reservoir, ran the tractor, moved the loader up/down...

MF35 Utility - repairs for winter

The screen has some gunk on it but it wasn't too terrible. Patrick, now I understand what you mean. I've never really noticed the loader acting up after moving around. It seems to work pretty much the same all the time. I'm going to try to flush the reservoir out (any suggestions?), put it...

MF35 Utility - repairs for winter

Shaeff, I have the radiator installed and this is what it looks like right now. I've also included a picture of the pump drive shaft. Next I'll be putting the hood on and then working on the wiring for lights. I'll take more pictures as I go.

MF35 Utility - repairs for winter

A few notes about the air cleaner. Some years ago I noticed the air cleaner dripping oil. I disassembled it and found a pinhole in the cup. Repaired it with epoxy and went on my way. Now it's leaking again so I took the cup off and gave it a swim in the parts washer. This is what it looked like...

MF35 Utility - repairs for winter

I've owned this MF35 for 9 years now. It wasn't running when I got it but only took routine things to get it going. Replaced distributor caps, rotor, plugs, and worked with the neutral start switch. I've been using it ever since. Over the years, small things have been breaking. The ammeter...

    MF35 bleeding from weep hole

I have an MF35 Utility with the Continental gas engine. The transmission is a 3-speed with a separate high/low lever and shuttle shift for Forward/Reverse on the steering column. Recently I use High range while moving hay from a neighbors property. Since then there's a steady drip of oil from...

    Driveway maintenence - toothbar?

Appreciate the advice against a toothbar in favor of a box blade -- I don't want to beat up my equipment unnecessarily. Though too bad, I thought this was the excuse I was looking for to get a toothbar. :) Here's a couple more pictures of the driveway. The original driveway is the dry, right...

    Driveway maintenence - toothbar?

I have a MF35 utility tractor with a front end loader and have been thinking about building a toothbar. It may be that I've come up with a good reason to do so.. We have a limestone driveway that's gotten pretty darn hard since we moved in six years ago. It was built with crusher-run limestone...

    Hydraulic cylinder disassembly

One of the power steering cylinders on my MF35 Utility is leaking badly. It's an aftermarket cylinder. I ordered a rebuild kit but can't figure out how to take it apart. There was a snap ring on the rod end of the cylinder which I removed but still, nothing comes apart. Pics are below. I...

    It's tire time - MF35 utility

My MF35 Utility needs rear tires. I currently have Goodyear Industrial Sure-Grip 14.9x24 R4's, loaded with fluid and iron wheel weights. The tractor is used for mowing the field, moving snow, loader work and plowing the garden (in that order). The R4's I have now have not impressed me with...

Can I fix these tires? (pics)

I got this tractor about four years ago. The tires always looked funny, though the previous owner said they were new or newer. Now they're coming apart! It looks like the tread is coming off the carcass. I don't know if there's such a thing as retreads for tractor tires but these sort of look...

    MF35 cuts out after warm

As the title says, my MF35 cuts out after it warms up. When mowing at full throttle, it runs fine until the engine warms up. After that, it will hit and miss. That is, runs up to full RPM, then cuts out until RPMs drop to around 1500 or so. Then it kicks back in, runs up to full speed and cuts...

MF 35 Utility - where to find loader #?

I have a MF 35 Utility (yellow) tractor with a Massey loader on it. The hydraulic cylinder that tilts the bucket is leaking and I need to find a seal kit for it. The local dealer asked for the loader model # but I cannot find a model tag anyplace on the loader. Where is the tag normally located...

    MF 35 Utility questions

Hi, I'm the new owner of a MF 35 Utility (gas) with front end loader and flail mower, and I have a few questions. 1. I need some manuals. Is documentation for the regular MF35 the same? I'd like to read about basic operation and regular service (ie checking fluids). 2. Is there a differential...
