180 F or 194 F thermostat? Preventative maintenance on a 1973 JD 820. Western Oregon is a fairly temperate part of the world. I can't tell if there is much of a difference for one vs another. Any thoughts?

AT22961 Remarks 180°F (82°C)

AT22963 Remarks 194°F (90°C)

I would go with 180°F but it either is fine.

Due to the fact that most utility tractors don't reach operating temp for extended periods of time I'd choose the higher temp thermostat

That's a factor of engine design. Too cold, you loose power. Too hot, you loose power. I'd go with what the manual calls for.

My old JD 420C gasser just got a 160F thermostat. My 2006 GMC Sierra 4.8L just got a 187F.

Good question, which I don't know the answer
For my 2030 diesel JD offers 180°, 194°, and 205°. For the gas version they have a 160°.
I have know idea what it has, but temp gauge runs the width of the pointer past straight up. Warms in 15-20 minutes in 60° plus outside temp.
Of your choices, I'd pick the hotter one, the 194°, since it's in the middle of what's offered for the 2030.

Why don't you just take the old one out of the tractor and see what the temp is marked on the thermostat and replace it with the same temperature thermostat.

I might be tempted to leave it alone if its working.
