Tilled it today. It was sod, took 12 minutes to make one pass on 4500 square feet. I'll let the grass decomp for a couple weeks and work it again.

I have records for the farm here from 1955 where corn was put in after sod (hay field). The records were for testing corn varieties, fertilizer, yields, methods. 10 varieties, 10acres, 10ton/acre manure, plowed, disced 5 times, dragged twice, drill planted ( vs checked), cultivated 3 times, 65-80bu/acre. With no herbicides, 11 times he ran across the field to kill the grass.

I have a full acre of buckwheat coming up from last summers crop. 😂
A buddy of mine had the same thing happen last year reseeding itself. He was figuring on tilling it up and reseeding. I told him he better wait and see if anything comes up, he may not need to. He wanted to leave it fallow for a couple of years so as to keep weeds down, plus food for his Bee's. Worked well and saved a lot of money..!!

Another 8 hours and more Greenboy cabbage up, plus a few Copenhagen up. Can't see the largest one at left front, it showed on the phone screen, but didn't catch it. Will probably put them in the green house tomorrow evening so they don't get leggy.

Cabbage after hours. Moved all to the green house except the red cabbage, none showing yet. If I remember correctly it took it a little longer last year to come up, so leaving it in the chamber and see what happens.

Second pic is of the Brussels Sprouts @ 72 hrs., probably another 48 hours then move them out. Starting tomatoes next week. Trying some currant tomatoes this year. Love those bitty tomatoes you get on a salad at Texas Road House. May only start one as they are supposed to be heavy producers, will be growing a couple Juliets too, larger grape tomatoes but have several friends that will help eat them.

My cauliflower and brock. plants got leggy in the greenhouse and the cabbage got stunted in the trays for some reason. Transplanted 1 row 130 feet long of cabbage then ran out of cones to put over them so had to quit til I can get more tile to cut up. Cant plant anything here without the tile sections around them. Damn rabbits again. Killed over a dozen over the winter but they keep coming in this year.
Got more seeds planted yesterday and another half of the spring plowed section chomped up with the big tiller before it rains again
Sweetcorn in greenhouse is 6 to 8 inches tall and looks o.k. Getting close to transplanting time for it too.

Maybe consider using the peppermint extract spray. Nothing touches any plants here with it on. Only takes 2 TBS. per gallon of water. I add it to my pesticide sprays later to save time. Without rain it will last 2 weeks. Even after a rain enough scent left for a couple of days until I can get back out in there to spray.

12.5 dozen tomatoes plants started of several varieties. Some peppers, and spaghetti squash in there too. Got a few peppers peeking out in 6 days.

Got the garden rolled over today. Maybe not perfectly dry enough but it's done. Love this little hillside plow..!! Leaving the strip of Rye in there to plant cabbage in to. Hopefully it will terminate itself if I keep mowing it weekly by the time Cabbage is ready to set out around Memorial Day..
