I am going to look at a 345 deere with a 54 inch and 20hp Kaw liquid cooled with about a 1000 hours on the machine. The asking price is 3100 from the dealer. The other tractor is a LX277 with about 235 hours and they want 2400 for it. The 277 has a brand new deck 48". The guy that turned it in for a new larger one kept hitting a sidewalk and was screwing up the rollers. The dealer had a deck that would fit the machine and installed it. Are these fair prices? Any feedback on these machine would be great. I am looking at them on Saturday. I can't wait!!! I am also interested in the X304 although it has a smaller deck it would fit in places that a 54 or 48 would not fit. Plus maybe a little more agile around my trees pond creek fence ditch woods.....Thanks!

Just using some private selling prices on E-Bay, the dealer prices on those two used tractors are a little high but he might negotiate more. The 345 is a great machine, and would be worth the $3100 IF it had low hours on it, say less than 500 indicating it was more probable to be a residential use machine. With 1000 hours, I would offer $2500 for it that being if it ran good and passed my inspection, many of the 300 series were used in commercial applications so you really have to check them out carefully. A nice machine, with great engine and power steering, but with high hours you can run into a lot of little annoying things that will keep you from getting the grass cut.
A LX277 with those hours might be worth $1500-1800, the new deck might be worth something, but does not add to the machine's resale value, as the dealer knew he had to replace it to sell the tractor, and as the previous owner looked to be abusive with the deck he probably was the same way with the rest of the machine.
Of course you would be shelling out $3400 for a new X304, but you'll have a new tractor with full warranty, and 4WS. In this case if the dealer is firm with their used prices, I would buy the new X.

The Deere dealer near me just sold two 335s both under 400 hours for $2500 each. The only difference is the 345 gives you liquid cooling vs. air cooling. All else is equal. Even with proper maintenence that is a lot of hours. In theory, you should still be able to get another 20 years at 50hrs/year on that machine, but who knows? Keep your eyes open, there are much better deals to be had.

I purchased a used LX277 a year ago for $3,000 with 112 hours. The machine had a bagging system that was an $800 option. The machine original cost was $4,600. Mine has a 17 hp Kawaski engine which runs great and is the heart of the machine. A year of use (40 hours) AND no complaints. I don't think you need liquid cooling unless you are using for commercial applications. I used the John Deere website which helped me size the machine for my lot. I am mowing a little over an acre with a 42" deck ( lots of trees ). I use the machine only for mowing. I have an old Cub Cadet that handles the dirty work.

I purchased a used 95 JD-345 last year. A dealer had 4 of them priced from $3700 to $4200. I found one in the want adds from a private party for $2700 with a new engine and 2 mower decks. One is a 44" rear discharge and the other a new 48" side discharge. A great tractor 18-hp water cooled Kaw. with power steering. I thought I got a good buy.
