cci claims 53 gr of no 12 shot in the 9mm and 52 gr of no12 in the 22 mag.

they have a new 9mm with 45 gr of no 4 shot.

53 grains is a bit less than I was able to fit in the 380 but I suppose the plastic takes up more volume than the brass and it has a lot more ogive as well.

45 grains of #4 bird shot is only 13-14 pellets, that would greatly reduce the odds of a hit as 53 grains of #12 would be 265 pellets.

the old crimped 22 shot shells from winchester had 105 pellets in them, and weighed 25 gr-- i just checked.

cci claims 32 gr in 22 LR

but i got options- and now to measure some fireball brass.

Had an idea the other day and had a few min to see how it would work.

I took a spare Lee powder through die I had and removed the flare portion from the inside and replaced it with an insert I machined to swage the 380 case down like my 45 ACP die does.

Much faster and the crimp looks a bit better.

i tried to turn a fireball case yesterday and tore it. i just need a better fit on the mandrel.

CCI does offer a 38/357 shotshell.

As for snakes, these rounds should be considered "lucky" shots. The shot content/spread makes a definite hit/kill a matter of luck. Yes, I've used the 38 shotshell on snakes but it often takes more than one round. The 44 round is MUCH more effective.

.221 fireball will be too thin to turn, the only reason a .223 works is because the web is so thick that low.

38/357 is a completely different round than the 380.

Speer sells capsules for the 38/357, 44 and 45 calibers but they are all for use in revolvers and would not work in this application, I know of no revolver chambered for .380 ACP.
