Jeff, I'll have to agree that your 3pt chainsaw idea might not take off (3pt sawmill on the other hand... hmmm).
Anyway back to the subject. I had the same dilemma and remember reading about cycle time in an older post. It basically said that you don't need to cycle the cylinder completely for each split. So... I got the 3pt splitter and sure enough 1-3 seconds into the log(at least on the dry maple that I've tried so far) and viola! That same 1-3 seconds to cycle the wedge back and you're ready to go again. 20 minutes later I had spun the tractor around filled the loader and dropped it at the back porch. These tractor things are great
