This is my first purchase. I have 75 acre of hardwoods with rolling topography. I plan to put in a few green fields, camp area, shooting range and eventuall a cabin. Also build a few roads, etc.

I am looking in the 40HP range and here are my current choices. They are all in the 35k range.

Mahindra 4540: weight 5192, length 128, width 82, lift capacity 3527, breakout 5978, dig force 3670
Mahindra 2540: weight 3285, length 119, width 59, lift capacity 2646, breakout 3430, dig force 3080
Mahindra 1538: weight 3627, length 127, width 89, lift capacity 2646,breakout 2650, dig force 2900
kubota L3901: weight 2778, length 107, width 55, lift capacity 1985, breakout 2463, dig force 3871

I posted in the other forum asking if I can go too big. But for this specific forum do you all have any opinions on these choices. I am leaning toward the 4540 because it seems more powerful and heavier than the others but is it too big?

Does anyone have any experience with any of these?

Good Morning CJ6
The 4540 is going to be your best bang for your buck no doubt most tractor out of all four. Please note that all of these are tier 4 now the Kubota will have a burn off filter and a regeneration period as well through out the life of the tractor that can be some what of a maintenance nightmare. The Mahindra does not have any burn off filters or regeneration periods.
The other tractor I would look at from Mahindra would be the 2555 Shuttle, it is lager then the 2540 and about the same size of the 4540. The advantage of this one will be the shuttle trans and the independent PTO. you will find the same features on the 1538 just on a significantly larger scale on the 2555.
I would recommend based off of what you are wanting to accomplish look at the 4540 or the 2555. BTW the 2555 TLB will come close maybe a hair over you budget, but I promise well worth it! Also Mahindra is doing a 1,000 power package including the backhoe if you buy another implement with the backhoe you can get a 1,000 cash rebate in the form of a check to you after your purchase, might be worth looking into! I hope this helps, If you have more questions do not hesitate to ask away!

I have a 4025 which is the same as the 4540 and the weight really makes a huge difference in a tractor, probably the biggest difference in my opinion. Especially for ground engaging work!

It would be the 4540 for me by a long shot... very simple basic tractor build and offers a lot more weight and lift in real life compared to the other two.. even when compared to the 2555

After lurking on this site and doing a lot of other reviewing- I visited the LS and Mahindra dealers for my final decision. Taking delivery of the 4540 4WD on Wednesday. Price for the tractor w fel, down here, is 22,025 before tax

I recently purchased the 4540 4x4 w/ FEL--I have been more than happy with my purchase. It is a fine machine.

I like the 2540, stout little tractor. Impressive numbers to boot. I think the 1538 is too small for what you're doing. The 4540 is an interesting machine. VERY impressive lifting capabilities and very nice on the wallet as well. Granted the ergonomics aren't quite there, and it definitely a simple tractor, but if you just need something to do work with its definitely a contender.
