Question: the other day I was hauling tree debri with my front bucket w/a set of forks. I had it in 4WD backing down the street a short ways and the underneath started clunking, so I quickly stopped and worked it out of 4WD. Now it does the same while in 4WD, only in reverse. Anyone have an idea?

Do you have U joints in the driveshaft for the front axle? I would check them.

Thank you, I’ll check them out. I haven’t had time look over just yet but I’ll start there

I hope it'll turn out to be as simple as a U-joint or two. A number of things can take offense when using 4WD on high traction surfaces.

I put mine back in 2WD as soon as having filled the loader bucket with dirt, for example, before turning, to help protect the weaker front axle which now has high contact pressure (lots of traction). And that's on loose dirt.

Have seen too many break their front axles while four wheeling after not switching back to 2WD when 4WD isn't needed.
