801/901 800/900 ??

I love the 900 and 901s (narrow or wide front). I have a narrow 960. If the opportunity ever presents itself, I will do a wide front 900 some day. Our 960 has been in the family since new (it was my grandfathers). It is definitely my Dad's favorite...what a good tractor! And yes, I have some 800s too.

I probably shouldn't say this, but....

As a HUGE fan of the 801 series tractors, I just can't come to appreciate these 901 series. They're kinda hard to look at.

Wow where's the love!:)

Where's the OP, btw. Did we ever figure out what he had?

Completely off topic... next to an 801, here's my 2nd favorite tractor (looks anyway):

i'd wager the front axle on that rowcrop wide front is at least as good as the one on the ag modle, if not better....

After reading through this thread and following the links and reading up on this series of tractors I think I will keep looking for something other than the 8n.

Hey, I'm still here. This thread took a while to get rolling and I've been busy with field work. Bungee, I guess you like those egg-crate grills.
The tractor is at my friend's place 2 miles up the road. I think he suspected something wasn't right with the model# when he bought it, but he likes the 801's too and it runs good. Maybe someone switched the side panels since it sure didn't look like a 900/901 in the quick look I took last week. I'll try to get back there and take a few pics.

About the 5-speed transmissions, were they as trouble free as the 4-speeds or were there some known issues?

Thanks for all the info.

the doglegs are 100% non compatible on the rowcrop and the ag modle.. but the upper hood panels are compatible, migth just be wrong decals too.

5spd is a good tranny... makes for a non synchro shuttle with 3 + R on the same gate.

the 4 are tough.. but when worn.. they will stick you in 2 gears. rare to hear of that on a 5spd...

As a row crop farmer, I prefer the 960 over an 800 model. But it's ok to disagree on this. :) Don't see many 800 series around here at all, tho the 900's aren't xactly plentiful either.

We had 2 960's, still have the one I learned to drive on. Ours were/are gas, one narrow front, the one I still have is a schwartz wide front.

all the 00 models would be gas ( of some sort.. or perhaps a rare tvo model ) :) diesel was a 1959 luxory with the 01 models.. :) ;)

gotta love the odd look of that swartz wide front.. thought I do like the ford wide front.. 2 part bolster and all.. etc..
