I just bought a new L3940. On page 75 of the manual for the tractor it reads "Rear tread width can be adjusted as shown with the standard equipped tires." It goes on to say how to do it. I have not gone out and looked at the rear wheels yet to look this over and try to figure it out. Can someone explain this to me? Does this mean I can move the tires farther out in the wheel wells so I will have more room to put a set of chains on in the winter?

If you have standard equiped tires (R1/ag) then yes.

I went back and looked at the page that shows this process and my L3940 with 17.5-24 Industrial tires lists three different widths:52.8"-54.3"-58.7". I went out and looked at the tractor and I can see how you could re-arange the rim and the disk either with the rim boss on the inside or the outside of the disk which would change the tread width. Right now my tires are set up with with the rim boss on the outside of the disk. So then I have to ask the question how do you manage to get the dimension of 58.7" in the last picture on page 75 of that manual. The picture is the same for the 52.8" configuration and the 58.7" configuration which has the rim boss on the outside of the disk. Or am I really missing something here? Something I'm not seeing or don't understand???

The rim boss is offset, move the tires to the opposite side.
