Advice on welding link repair

If I remember correctly AWS requires mild steel to be 50-degrees or more when welding. I did a big welding job at the Boeing Space Center in Kent. When the ambient temperature got below 50-degrees Boeing's welding inspectors shut us down.

When I write my procedures I generally make it 50 degrees F simply because of the lack of skill with the newbies out there. AWS is generally 32F depending I. The actual material used. Preheat tables in clause 3 & 4 in D1.1 are a must have on hand on a lot of job sites. Preheat on a lot of steels changes as the grade changes. For instance most Grade 65 will be 300 with a max inter pass of 500. It can all change though simply because of that little A number though.lol
