And you thought modern attachments were unsafe?

The Craigslist post I referenced above has been superceded by some different pictures showing the same horror-movie buzz saw.

It looks even worse. The workpiece weight bears down on car springs, so its position can change when things get weird. The whole thing looks so flimsy it would fall apart if it stalled in a knot, or maybe the tractor pto driving it would toss it head over heels, with the sawyer under it. Brrrrr.

Here are pictures of a friend of mine's home made table saw. Would I use this rig? NO!

I really don't see how this thing could be useful for anything. As mentioned, trying to cut down a tree of any size at all would be very hard. You'd be looking back over your shoulder trying to inch forward and as soon as the cut was deep enough it would bind immediately and that would be quite a show there! And even if you did complete a cut, the tree is likely to fall back on the tractor! Brush would likely just get nicked and then bent under the blade and brush that size would be easier to cut with a rotary cutter.

But, someone paid over $300 for the thing. Maybe we're missing something. Is it possible that this is just a part of a some type of mill or something?

That would be just the ticket if you had a Christmas tree farm and it was time to harvest a semi load all at once.
