Any idea what model this machine is? Does Deere make it or is it something custom?

Hmmmm..... it does look to be custom.
It appears to be hydraulically articulated.
It has high floatation tires like a fertilizer spreader.
The bed appears to be mesh, not solid walls.
Just because its in a corn field doesn't mean its corn related. ;)
Sure looks like cotton in the back, but PA isn't big on cotton, assuming the photo was taken in PA?

Machine was being used to harvest forage (i.e. the forage chopper was blowing into it's bed). It seems like a odd machine to custom fab if it's just being used to haul forage from the chopper to a silo/silage packing pit.

Any chance its a Deere prototype/not a custom machine?

David,

Two questions.

1. When did you last have a vision exam?
2. Have you ever seen a cotton field?

;)

Were you anywhere near State College or a branch Ad. Experiment Station? I was thinking that PSU ag. engineers may be involved.

I am with you in questioning the economic feasibility of a dedicated self-propelled silage hauler.

Sure looks like chopped silage on the cab roof and a little on the hood.
It's not articulated, you can see the steering gear under the front axle.

Good eye!

Yes, I've seen cotton fields and yes, I've seen cotton in the mesh bin on a cotton harvesting tractor like this:
There's one in a junk yard down the road from me.

As for a vision exam, not sure what you're refering to. The stuff in the back sure looks white and fluffy. I didn't catch the steering rams under the front axle, that's why I mentioned articulation. ;)

Instead of white and fluffy, it could be aluminum panels. Can't tell with the quality of the photo.

I tweaked it a bit.

Looks like a forage wagon mounted to a custom chassis to me.
I would guess that its a Badger forage box (like these: Forage Boxes - Picture and Information | Art's Way Manufacturing Co., Inc. )
Brochure page showing the truck mount model:

Edit, found the picture I was thinking of:
If the OP was closer to Gettysburg, I would guess that it was a Mason Dixon Farms contraption, but I don't think they range that far and their version is a little bit bigger:

They also use the same trailer base to haul manure slurry tanks:

I'd agree. But the one in the OPs photo has about 14 narrow sections and the ones in that brouchure have about 6. Maybe doubled up to hold something heavy?
