Hello fellow tractor lovers,
My name is Troy, I live in PNW (Washington state) and recently purchased a 1710 Ford with a front loader, front snowplow, disc set-up anda 3 piece harrow for $4500. I’ve been using the tractor for a new home and shop build on 5-0 acres for the past year and half without any issues except for hitting rocks hidden in the tall grass from the low front PTO.

Yesterday (1/6/21), while plowing the fresh 8” of snow my water pump went out. Today, after researching the night before I took off all the needed parts to get to the water pump. All that came off pretty easy, assembling hopefully will be the same.

Anyway, the tractor has a front PTO on it. I do not have implements that use the front PTO and it reduces my clearance dratmically. Since I have removed a lot of front pieces for the water-pump and I have to wait a week to get it, I thought I’d look at removing the front PTO. I’m not sure if there are anything’s to be careful of removing the front PTO, if it can be done without further problems, etc. My theory by looking at it, I can remove the PTO and the drive chain, it’s full length under carriage mount, without disrupting anything else on the tractor. It looks like there are about a dozen bolts to remove all of the front PTO housing and frame work. It’s what I can’t see that scares me, especially since I am not a mechanic it learning how to be one 😊.

I’ve searched the web and forums for removal of the front PTO but I keep coming up empty handed. Does anyone know where I would find out about the removal and is worth selling it once I get it off?
Thank you for reading, responding if you can assisting me,
Tory

If I remember, everything can be removed from that tractor relatively easy. The coupler that is bolted to the balancer does not need to be removed, only the shaft.
If you can get some pictures, that would help my memory.

Also, you can cap the wires going to the electric clutch or remove them back to the switch.
Keep all of the parts that you are removing. Some of those parts are getting hard to get now.

If you are using the front plow setup, you want to leave most of the brackets in place.
The square tube from the rear of the tractor to the front pto, supports the plow on some models.

If your plow doesn't use those mounting points and need more ground clearance, it can all be removed.
Just remove the shaft that connects the PTO to the motor, it looks like the spline is damaged so you could just cut it out.

Chandler,
Thanks for all your input and assistance regarding the removal of the front PTO. I got everything off and hoping to get it listed for sale after some basic cleaning to all the parts.
Thanks again,
Troy
