I used to always mow with my FEL on. It took the punishment and did it without issue. My new tractor is larger so it is harder to haul and mow with the loader on. I have a grill guard but it is not enough. I am thinking of a drop down bumper that protects the battery box, steering rods and the front of the tractor. Anyone have any ideas? Is a piece of pipe and some brackets as good as it gets?

Not very pretty, but we used old railroad iron before to make bumpers. Adds weight and helps protect things.

Yes. I did it on mine when I built the winch. It works nicely as it pushes the brush away from the hood Could use a bigger/wider one though but I still need to drive in tight spaces.

Intersting
I have a 5 foot section of rail. I thought it might be the ticket.

Instead of removing the loader just remove the bucket.
raise the loader up a bit to protect the tractor.
works for me...

I just mow with the FEL and bucket on. No reason to take them off.
