My 1993 Ford 7.3L non turbo IDI 4WD E4OD transmission quit working. Transmission oil is black. I know a rebuilt is in order. I would like to simply buy a rebuilt, exchange mine and install it. I know that some folks here like CowboyDoc have mentioned much better E4OD'ds available from some power builders, but I am sure at some considerable cost and frankly, the truck is not worth it. Anyone know of rebuilders? I did a Google search but found deciphering the number of choices boggling. Thanks, Rat...

Rat,

On The Diesel Stop it seems like they are always praising BTS, Brians Transmission Service. I think he has so much work to do he is hard to get ahold of by phone. If I remember right he is in AK and about $3,000 for a tranny depending on what is done. I think he will also ship.

I am sure a quick search on TDS will turn up good info. Maybe other contacts. Sun Coast or some such in CA also comes to mind.

Sorry I can't be more helpful.

Later,
Dan

What about a manual? A granny box would work nice behind that motor...

Otherwise, check with Nick at S&H Four Wheel Drive in Sac. He would not build a tranny, but would have references for good builders. His shop does a lot of custom work, and deals with local shops... 916-927-3919

Thanks Dan and Robert. I would like a manual, but it would be a pain to add the various componets needed and quite frankly, I just do not need a full size truck anymore. A Toyota Tacoma size would be fine so fixing up this old anemic diesel to much would hardly make sense. I ordered a remanufactured E4OD from Phoenix Remanufacturing. $950 plus $260 for 2 way shipping. I just want it to run again until I can eventually sell it. It looks and runs well, I just don't need it anymore.
