You ever meet a Tony Morabito, when you were at Minot?

Paul, Not that I recall (I'm at least 50% sure.) Was he USAF, civilian Gov employee, local guy, or what? I didn't meet many local folks outside of a few shopkeepers and a couple tenant farmers taking care ot farms whose owners were wintering in Arizona.

Howse yourse, Oly? Mines fine, Sven, howse yours? Been down to the Sons of Norway Hall planning the ice fishing tournement.

I was at Minot for a couple months longer than 3 years ending August 29, 1967. This after spending the worst winter recorded at Rantoul, IL (Urbana Champlain area) in 75 years. Didn't get to use my desert survival training till later but the arctic survival training was quite handy.

Regrettably, I did not ask any of the wheat farmers or dairymen if they filled their tractor tires and with what. It would most likely have been Ca Cl.

Still, for most folks in moderate northern climates -15F should be OK. I don't think I'd be happy with standard WWF if I lived in Minnesota or the Dakotas or Canada however.

Up here our WWF tends to be -40 C rated. I would *guess* that this would be fine in tires down to the coldest ambient temperature it gets to around here. I imagine it is the same in colder parts of the USA.

Moral of the story: Don't buy WWF in Texas to fill in your tires in Canada.

He was USAF Radar Specialist...I ran into him when he was retired in the Norfolk area...We got to talking since most of my relatives are NDs primarily in the Red River of the North Area and he related his experiences with the civilian pop of Minot...:D

Your relationship with weather is similar to my wife...she wrote an article dealing with frostbite when she was in residency...so for her first duty station they assigned her to Mayport NS FLORIDA...:D

LOL! Sounds like my father's experience in the Navy 55 years ago. He was around 5'4" tall & weighed a whopping 130lbs at the time, wanted to get into submarines for the extra $$$. Took the physical, passed with flying colors, was told he was wanted & needed in subs. What did he end up doing? Aviation gunners mate! To top it off, he never enjoyed flying & had to be pushed out for his parachute jump!

Sorry for the hijack, carry on.

I can't see what all the fuss is about, down here in Central Florida we just fill with plain tap water :)

Do you add anything to kill fungus? How funky does the water get? I was thinking of adding a few gallons of WWF hoping to keep the slime out.

As there is very little oxygen in a filled tire it's unlikely you'd get any growth of aerobic organisms. Besides, who cares what's going on inside the tire? Even my wife doesn't try to clean in there!

Thats the way I look at it too. My Kubota dealer said they do it all the time, and he's 3rd generation owner of the family business.
