what are the best snowmobile studs for trail riding, have a 05 SD GSX 380 and want to stud it, how much do they cost, can I do this myself?

Carbide, pricey but then again you don't have to do them every year either. Yes you can do them yourself but you will need a few tools.

Any of the major brand studs are pretty high quality. For a 380 Fan, you would only need 48 down the middle since there isn't much horsepower there. The track lugs on that machine are so short (less than 1 inch) that you may not even need tunnel protectors, although Ski Doo recommends them. The factory recommends Woody's studs, and they may be your best bet.

They have several different models to choose from. I see you're in Central NH. I would call Jack Willey's Lakes Region Supply in Tilton and talk to them. It should be less than $100.
