I "re-cleared' about 5 acres or so that had been bull dozed about 8 to 10 years before.
I chain-sawed saplings up to about 4" diameter as close to the ground as possible. Lost lots of chainsaw chains to rocks/dirt. Cheap Poulon chainsaw held up great.
The stumps do "sucker" but I keep the thing mowed so they don't sucker for long. I have mostly open area, though, without a lot of big trees to mow around.
