It is on sale for $650. It splits on the forward and return stroke, so it is pretty fast. It seems to be well built and it holding up good so far.
There is a 3 point made by Brave that has the bidirectional splitting. Was inexpensive when sold by Northern Tool, not sure now what they go for.

I ended up salvaging my dad's log splitter from the early eighties. I made some necessary mods as to height, the back plate, and log stripper. Then, for the heirloom value and my current needs, I recently re-powered it then added a log lift and a wing-splitter for the larger rounds.

That dont even look look like the same splitter.

The first picture looks like about every other cobbled together homemade job I see people trying to pass as a "heavy duty splitter" on craigslist for $800.

That second one....thats something to be proud of right there
