I just purchased a JD4520 and am looking for a box blade for it
what is the best size and weight for this model. My soil is clay and good topsoil with few rocks or tree roots

i was thinking a 6ft boxblade - weight 500 to 750 Lbs

any suggestions

I think you you will be fine with that.

I had a woods medium duty 6' box blade with my 33hp tractor,I'm keeping it to use with the 4520 arriving in a few months... BUT, if I was purchasing new I'd be getting a 7'er - it is nice to be outside the wheels by a bit, and it should handle it fine with the soil you describe.

I recommend the Frontier BB4278H which is 78 inches wide or the BB4284 which is 84 inches wide. I have a BB1284 which is the prior model which you may find used, same thing except the new models are IMatch compatible. These are made by Woods Gannon and are industrial models about as good as you can get.

Heres a couple of pics of the BB1284 on my 4520.

I have a similar size tractor and a good match for me is a heavy duty 78" model. I wanted a little more than 6' but thought 7' might be too much, and I ran across a used 78" model. I wouldn't go with anything lighter than I have, it's 1,000lbs. Hydraulic scarifiers are worth their weight in GOLD-but hard to justify.
