I talked to the guys on ebay that sell the Wallenstein Thumb about the slipping.
The current thumb sold is a third generation and has been modified to not slide into the fitting. I saw one the other day on the shelf and there is a new plate that goes on top (that narrows the grip or limits how far down it can slide). I asked if that plate was the fix and he said yes. Their floor model is still missing the plate but the ones we sell have that extra plate. So no welding should be needed with the new thumb.
It also has a beefed up support arm.
