Just wondering why on the CAM trailer web site they list a max gross trailer weight that is more than the sum of the axle weights. Are they adding the tough weight also to up the GVWR?
Example: Full Deck Tilt P6CAM18FTT: GAWR 6000 per axle, curb weight 3080 , GVWR 13800, payload 10720. I figure 2x6000 =12,000lbs -3080 curb weight = 8920 lbs payload. Where does the extra 1800lbs come from?
This just on the web site and not in the printed brochure.
I'm shopping for a trailer for my U27. Using Ram 2500.

They are taking tongue weight into consideration.

12,000 over the axles and 15-20% bearing on the vehicle.

Yep, my "Quality Trailers" 16' utility had 2 x 3,500 lb axles and weighs right around 2,000 lbs. They advertise it as 6,000 payload with 1,000 lb tongue weight.

GVWR 7000 lb. – Capacity 6000 lb. with 1000 lb. Hitch load

The manufacture started this in the second paragraph.

General Duty | 7 GVWR | Tandem Axle Trailers

I found an aluminum trailer with 2-3500# axles 1200 curb weight =5800 payload. So if I put 500# on the hitch then I would have a 6300# GVWR? The U27 probably weighs about 5800-5900# with thumb and bucket. That's pushing it for that trailer. Still looking at a CAM tilt or Warrior equipment trailer.
BTW, anyone have any real world experience with CAM,PJ or Bigtex equipment trailers?

I have a 30 foot 14GN that I had derated to 14,500 pounds. I have had very poor luck with this trailer. Even after derating the trailer the tires that came with it would not hold the weight. The rims were under the GVWR of the trailer also. The step was not weld on correctly. Powder coating is gone in less then 1 year. The monster ramp spring broke and Big Tex does not sale replacements that are shaped correctly, you must heat and bend them yourself. Two leaf springs have broken, 3 u-bolts have broken. I bent an axle on the highway in December there were NO REPLACEMENTS to be found until after the new year,>6 weeks out. Big Tex axles have a custom saddle placement and width. I do not run over-loaded these are all legal loads. It should be called the BIG Flex. Needs more screws in the deck. Overall I would rate this trailer an"F".
