This is my 1958 Case 310B. I bought the tractor a couple years ago, it ran very well at the time. Then one day it started to knock. Turned out to be a broken crankshaft. So I decided to tare it down and do a major rebuild. This thread will chronicle the taredown and rebuild. Stay with me. I'm going to do this whole thing from my iPhone.

I started by removing the tin to make room for the loader removal. The loader is only held on by 6 bolts Four bolts on the front (2 per side) and 2 large bolts on the rear. The hydraulic pump is just 2 bolts and it slides right out.

Then I blocked up the tractor under the torque tube, and removed the steering shaft from the steering gear.

Remove the Hyd. Pump shaft and coupler from the engine. The pump will be removed when the loader is taken off. The pump will stay with the loader. My shaft was frozen so I needed to remove both. The shaft should pull right out, in which case you can leave the coupler on the motor.

Remove steering pump and tie it to the front end.

Remove the lower wishbone from the bell housing, then the bolts between the front steering gear housing and the engine. At this point the front end can be rolled away from the tractor.
