After reading your post and the responses, I'll bet that you have one heck of a good deal. Just a DIY myself, I'll bet that the engine problem is quite simple, such as the manifold or a carburetor problem. And changing from Hi to Lo gear just takes a little patience when stopped. After nearly thirty years mine is still that way.
