Lovejoy knock off
coupler on log splitter between pump and engine
ater 2 hours of run time half the coupler was gone
its the L-100 3 jaw halfs with the rubber insert

any ideas on what might cause this

alignment seems fine

Usually 3 things can make the rubber spider shred prematurely

Alignment.....Alignment ....& Alignment.......Check it again with a straightedge...not just by eye.....

You can buy a hytrel spider (hard plastic) if you think alignment's OK.....

checked alignment tonight it was a little off but not much, had to file the holes a bit on the pump to engine mount. installed new spider and ran it for a few minutes....... that cured the noise i was getting hope it holds up

Is the gap between the rigid halves of the coupling correct? We had a run of two or three concrete power buggies like this that were shipped to us from the factory with the couplings installed so that the metal halves were actually touching each other slightly. Then, as the machine was used, the metal halves touching and rubbing one another slightly built up enough heat that the rubber inserts were destroyed.

Too little clearance in the coupling can make these two opposing surfaces marked in red rub together.....especially under load and/or if alignment isn't perfect. And metal-on-metal contact with no lubrication is seldom a good thing!

Adjust the gap to whatever Lovejoy specs the clearance to be and use the correct insert for the application.....and you'll be all set.
