Craftsman DYT 4000-difficulty cranking

I get a click each time I turn the key and then it cranks after about 6 times of turning the key and getting the click. Seems to be getting worse. The guy who works on my lawn mower says that there is a valve that can be adjusted. Can anyone help me with this?

Actually, if the charging system is up to snuff, sometimes this is an indication of valves needed adjustment. It really is a simple task.
