You are lucky. Others who have done that have destroyed their pumps.

Yes, definitely put on the loopback hose. I just bought the hose and two couplers at TSC for $28 and put them on because I am loaning the tractor to a buddy without the backhoe. I don't want him to hit that control and burn up my pump. I sleep better at night now :D

I do a perfectly adequate job at screwing up my own stuff

Didn't think that smelled good. Now I know why. What a FUBAR design! One would think there would be a guard and a big Warning sticker on the fender.

Is this even mentioned in the owners manual? We just moved, and it is still MIA.

Speaking of lost manuals, does anyone know when you are supposed to check the hydro fluid - hot or cold and idling or off.
