I'm getting ready to perform the 100 Hr. service on my CT335. One task is
to clean out the Spark Arrestor Muffler. My concern is that the clean out
plug is right over the alternator, and to avoid any contaminants getting into
the alternator, I plan to fashion a deflector from sheet metal to deflect any
solids/liquids away from the alternator and the engine compartment.

Has anyone else performed this maintenance? What quantity of contaminants
can I expect coming out of the clean out hole?

I did it on my 225. Minimal carbon/grit. Like less than a teaspoon full

I cleaned out mine (CT235) out at the scheduled time and virtually nothing came out. I've done the procedure twice since owning the tractor. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Thanks Krazsk and Fred! I'll be doing the cleanout when the temperature moderates a bit.
Gads, I'm getting sick of this cold weather. Still about 12-14 inches of frozen snow on the
ground here in Southern New Hampshire.

This is the first I have heard of this. Kioti does not have this? Bobcat only?

James - Does your DK35se have a spark arrestor muffler
(has small bolt (square head) on botton surface of muffler?
I'm not sure if this is just a Bobcat feature. The Bobcat manual
says to clean out every hundred hours by removing bolt,
starting engine and then block exhaust pipe with a flat board
for about 10 seconds to force contaminants out of the clean
out hole.

I will check it out next time I am down at the barn ( a little dark cold and snowy now) but the manual never mentioned it.

I did get around to cleaning out the spark arrestor muffler, but not without some difficulty.
The bolt was very tight and felt as though it was bound up, requiring a great deal of force
on a 10" crescent wrench to turn it. Since I wasn't sure if this was normal, I called the
Bobcat dealer service department and talked to the service manager. He said that they
came across so many that were seized up, that they stopped including spark arrestor
cleanout as part of the 100 hr. service. I decided to continue on since I had the bolt
already started out. After removing it, the end result was that no contaminants came
out when running the engine with the exhaust blocked. With a liberal application of
WD-40, the bolt went back in a little easier. It appears that the bolt is made of brass,
now that the black paint has been removed during bolt removal.
