Looking at buying a John Deere 850, owner sez tractor has not been used in a while and the clutch is stuck, the owner sez it cranks and runs good, is there anyway to "unstick" clutch or does tractor have to be broken down, any help appreciated, going to look at it tomorrow.

I have had some luck getting them unstuck. You need to be sure you have plenty of room to stop in case it does not come unstuck. Idle the engine as slow as you can get it. stick the shifter into 1st gear, low range while holding clutch down - it will grind some, but if you engage low range first and then 1st, it will be minimal if you do it quickly. Once you are in gear, run throttle to full rpm, and while still holding down the clutch pedal, jab the brakes on sharply a few times. Sometimes the jolt will unstick the disk. Sometimes the tractor needs to be split. Just be sure to be ready to shut off engine to stop if it does not come loose.
