Tractor
new holland tc29 tlb
hey there everyone!
new to the site and a new tractor owner as well.
just bought a 2001 new holland tc29 with loader, backhoe,
two buckets, and a bush hog two way box scraper.
has 980 hours and has been maintained well.
been used but not abused.

there is a known issue...needs a throw out bearing.
he drop the price to reflect that. still runs fine and
i was able to drive it home being less than two miles
away.

so, did i get a good deal??
anything that i should check right off?
doesn't have any major leaks, everything works properly.
any know issues with this model?

your input is greatly appreciated, hope i didn't get a lemon.

happy tractorin'
steffan

Considering it came with a hoe, it is a pretty good deal for a clean, well maintained tractor. About the same price I would expect to see on a private party owned machine without the hoe but w/ FEL and maybe an implement thrown in. A tight used hoe of almost any brand is worth $3000 easy.

Throw out bearing isn't too bad ($$$) itself and not a huge project but the tractor does have to be split to replace it. Since you have it that far, replace the pilot bearing too and make sure the rest of the clutch has good service life. If you have to pay to have this done, it's going to take some of the "bargain" out of the deal. I suspect most dealers are going to charge anywhere from $500-$1000??? in labor (I'd guess 7-8 hrs labor if you take the hoe and subframe off at whatever going rate is these days but plan on $70-80 hr. min.) to split the tractor and put it back together.

Steffan,

I would say you got an excellent deal for a NH TC29D with FEL, Backhoe, with two buckets, and a bush hog and box scraper too!

I would think you have about $15-17K of machine and attachments if the unit is not beat up. If you can split this yourself and change the T/O bearing on the clutch you got a good deal.

I dont know these machines well, but if it were mine I would check all fluid levels and operation then if OK run it an hour or two to see what leaks then replace the T/O bearing and do all the fluids/filters at that time.

hey carl,
thanks for the reply, not the d model but the tc29s.
doesn't have the the super steer, hydro trans, not sure
what the other features were on there.
i'm pretty sure i can handle the split on my own,
all the fluids looked good, lubed well, nothing really beat on.
had a little hazing on the paint but that's gone now :D

hey darryl,
thanks for the advice, will definetly do the pilot bearing and
clutch while i'm at it.
dealer here quoted me close to 1500 in labor alone.
i'll do it myself thanks. not that big of a job.
but you know you all will be hearing from me when i get in to it.
thanks in advance for all the input
ciao

$1500!.....that's....well, that's why they're in business but in their defense, they have to cover a lot of overhead. I know labor rates are all over the map and I was quoting bottom dollar. Even my first clutch was just a weekend job it's certainly not rocket science. I am a big advocate of having a service manual for any tractor I plan on keeping but suspect the only thing out there right now for yours is the factory version and is pricey. The online exploded parts diagrams can be very helpful sometimes when you are trying to figure out how something comes apart or goes back together and I have referred to them many times. Messicks has a great parts website and they are great to deal with.

anyone know of any "issues" with this tractor?
what kind of hours can i expect from this engine
before it needs a rebuild?
any tire recommendations other than the titan
trac loader that's on there now? the fronts are
pretty worn for the amount of hours it has on it.
