dish folks said to be eligible for the new plans they offer, we would have to be without dish for 90 days: then we could open a new account: i don't think i will do that, especially with the worse 3 months of the year for getting outside coming up.
dmccarty, keep me informed on how that all works out for you...i will try to do a little playing around with the streaming this year, and maybe be ready for a better option next year.

Each box whether owned or leased must be on an active account. Directv has the serial # of each of my boxes as well as the access card within each box. In order to receive a signal to any box it must be active in Directv's system. I have tried hooking up an old box I have and the screen says something like "no subscription for this programming."

Well, there you go! I've moved boxes around all over the place, but they were all leased boxes. What you say makes perfect sense. They aren't going to miss a chance to charge you.
