I would much rather invest in repairing an old washer than buy a new one. Most people I know do not like their new washers and the machines do not seem to be holding up all that well

Watching these washing machine videos has given me an idea. I am going to be installing a driveway and a gravel pad soon, and I was contemplating purchasing a plate compactor (the one from harbor freight ) to get the job done. It appears a washing machine "total self destruction" destroys everything but the motor. The motor can handle the vibration. I happen to have an old washing machine in my "spare parts yard" (junk yard). Maybe I'll just roll my own plate compactor using the washing machine motor. Maybe I'll entertain myself with a live demo of variac-powered washer first.

More than likely you have some buildup of detergent on the bracket that connects the drive to the tub. Apparently you don't need more than 1 tablespoon of detergent no matter the size of the load.
