Electrical fuel pump en lieu of the plunger type mechanical pump

/ Electrical fuel pump en lieu of the plunger type mechanical pump #11
I was wondering if any of you have bypassed the mechanical plunger type fuel pump for a universal, low PSI electric pump and if so, what did you go with? Thanx.

Any pump over the counter will work as most diesel systems have a bleed off back to the tank to get rid of any air and deal with fuel leakage from the inside of the injectors.

Don't put it in series with your old pump or you may incorporate its problems into the new system.. for example a plugged internal valve.

The only downside I learned was that most diesels of the older generation will continue to run even if the battery is dead and the charging system is not working because the fuel pump was mechanical.

With the electric pump, a kaput charging system may leave you stranded when your electric pump stops working.

In the poorer parts of the world where they cannot afford batteries, they have spring wound starters to get the engine going. These starters are even used on mission critical generators.

They turn the engine faster than a battery powered starter will.

If you are interested in spring starters this link will show you. You wind the spring up, it can sit wound up for a long time and will turn the engine instantly. No battery.
