If you had a short somewhere I would think (hope) a fuse would blow somewhere.

Battery Tester - Save on this 6v/12v Battery Load Tester You can test battery, charging system all within seconds.......One quicky repair will pay for itself alone.....You need the one with the built-in load switch (100 amp) I've seen local auto parts stores have them for 40 to 50 bucks too
