Re: How about some info on Komatsu & Hitachi/JD?

I dunno much about Komatsus really, Their history is not well known to me or anyone I've talked with about them... They have many models that seem to change continuously to the parts man's bain. In my area of AR, Cat and Case are in a dead heat market wise.

Hitachi has been supplying Deere since the C series excavators. Prior to the latest (and current) series machines, JD machines had a Deere engine. With Hitachi running the industrial Deere line now, they are exactly the same machine as Hitachi down to the same part #s.

Historical Construction Equipment Assocation is dedicated to all makes of old equipment. very neat.

Re: How about some info on Komatsu & Hitachi/JD?

Do you know of a web site with information and/or discussion of mini-excavators? I am primarily looking for information on the Bobcat excavators but am also looking at the other brands.

Re: How about some info on Komatsu & Hitachi/JD?

I'll post some pictures of a very nice cat mini trackhoe with a thumb. The computer I'm on won't allow uploads so until this Sun. I won't be able to show it to you guys.

Scott, who did you say link belt was made by? I like the look of their machines, they're very nice looking. Although, I liked the white cabs back in the early 90's rather than the black they have now.

P.S. Well, here's the site you can go see the pic. I'll post more of them Sun. or Mon. Site URL:

Here's another: http://www.hpf.com/_gallery_photo.asp?txt=Cat 303.5 with Progressive Link Thumb&img=cat3035_7.jpg

This machine picture is taken from a company that is not too far away from where I live. They do mostly rockeries etc.

Re: How about some info on Komatsu & Hitachi/JD?

Summitomo. They are identical to Case machines with a different paint job...

I was thinking about Komatsus earlier today and I remembered a few things about them... They use a cummins copy engine with a fuel system of their own design. They evolved into the earthmoving machine business through a joint venture with Bucyrus Erie to make cranes and shovels called Komatsu/Bucyrus. Bucyrus also had a joint venture with Ruston in England for cranes and shovels. Bucyrus was doing the same thing as Cat back then; starting a joint venture company in the countries with high import tariffs to get around paying it and gaining entry into said market.

Hey,!
Don't forget KOBELCO. Fast in the ground as well as out, unlike many other machines. I have heard but never driven that LIEBHERR also makes great machines.
