Firewood processor design almost done.

Concept and design is just in my head at the moment. I had two thoughts. One could be to just add a hydraulic cylinder perpendicular to the log when it falls into the splitter. The cylinder would push the chunk over the cradle of the splitter and down a chute. Second option would be to have a sliding cover over the splitter cradle. Hydraulic operated so the chunk falls onto the cover and rolls down the chute. I like the second option as its less operations. Typically if the whole log needs to be split or not. So you could set the cover over the cradle and cut up the log. Next log needs to be split, retract the cover and it drops into the splitter. This would require 2 conveyors probably.
IF you could retract the splitting wedge completely you could just push the round out. Im planing on using my current timberwolf spliter and building around it.

Hmm ok, after some more thoughts on that, and because it will be the whole log that will, or not require splitting. I think I will pass that option. I can grab the (smaller diameter obviously) log from one end with the grapple, raise it, and just manually cut it next to the pile. No big delays anyway. I think imho that adding so much complexity in not necessary, for me at least.

How about a simple disconnect for the splitter ram that would permit the conveyor to move forward for the next cut with out the splitting process, that way a smaller log that might require several cuts could continue to be cut with the cordwood dropping into the hopper until you reach a spot where you want to split again, stop the saw, empty the hopper in one step, and continue.

Following up on my old thread. The design is improved more, and its now on a different server.
The fabrication has started, here are some pictures of what I have built so far. HUGE help is the CNC Plasma cutter that I built, I can precisely cut whatever I want ;)

Looks good so far. I've got to know more about your cnc plasma table rubberbands and all :)

Finally :) All the major parts are done, I figured out the hydraulics too. Full automation, for the clamp, and the saw feed cylinder. Its fabricating time! :) :)

I had paused it for a while to get some money. I will start ordering the last parts soon. I have about 40 cords waiting to hit the market! If you have any questions feel free to ask anything. The design is online :)

I've never used a processor but I am totally fascinated by them. I can watch YouTube videos for hours. We are going to start heating with wood so I'll probably end up with one. I'm all about my time has a price and if I can get more done with a machine, I'm in.
