Trips to TOOL WORLD and Harbor Freight when I first got my tractor would usually come to $300+ each trip. NOW I can go in, look around for an hour and maybe spend $30 and most of that would be on expendable items. You know you are equipped when you can walk thru the aisles of any store with tools and say, "Got one of those, 2 of those, etc" to just about every item or "Don't need one of those " is even better.

For one thing on a brand new tractor you shouldn't have to do much to it for several years. Oil changes, and greaseings of course and snugging up the wheel bolts as the rims settle in but beyond that not much until it's off warranty. Its the things you hook onto it that will give you the chores and the need for tools to fix breakage. Unless your a man of considerable means some of the implements you hook onto won't be new and if your just learning they will be considerably "Less New" shortly.

One of my favorite places in the Harbor Freight Tool store is the knick-nac area where they have the clear plastic containers of well knick-nac's. I get the assorted nuts and bolts small size and large, the black rubber O -rings the cotter keys, the grease fittings and many different things like that. Everytime I go in I get some of them even if I already have one just for over stock!

Here is the list of items in this thread to date....thought it would be interesting to put it in a spreadsheet and tally some things. The "item" is well the item, listed as they show up there are 52 at this point. The "number of seconds" are the number of times on down the string someone seconds a previous item. The additional note is generally a comment to further clarify the item.

DITTO,on TripleR's air compressor suggestion. You need them SO much and the tools they will run for you.I keep 2 main ones.....a 5HP gasoline with maybe a 15 gallon tank for out in the field,tied in my truck. For around the house,I have a small craftsman electric,maybe 3 gallon tank and of course,every farmer I know owns a portable air tank. don-ohio

With exception of locktite, this could be a partial inventory of my shop.
I would like to add : Assortment of bolts, nuts, flat washers and lock washers in most commonly used sizes and lengths. I buy them where they sell by the pound ($1.99 per #) for everything.

At least one extra pin for the lift arms on 3 ph. I have had them bend, get loose and destroy the threads so I keep a couple spares in Cat1 and Cat 2 for both my tractors.
Extra top link pin or two. I have to have an assortment as my tractors use different sizes.
And for building things to store all these tools like shelves, cabinets, tables
Assortment of wood screws- handy for installing those shelves you are going to build to put all this "STUFF" on
Sabre-saw (saws-all)
table saw (for cutting all that lumber to build shelves all around your shop
hand hack saw
Jig saw
claw hammer and assortment of nails
Really splurge and get some pneumatic staple and nail guns for those winter carpenter projects when you cant get out with your tractor
pipe wrenches 10" and 18" for fixing those broken water lines that you dig up with your tractor, also handy for those rounded head nuts and bolts
drift punches (set) To get those sheared bolts out
cold chisels & wood chisels if you do any wood work
ratchet chain binders (min 4) to lock that chain down when hauling your tractor and equipment
4 -15 foot chains each with load rating sufficient to hold the weight of whatever you are hauling per DOT requirements}In my case that is 3/8" grade 70
2" or larger ratchet strap to strap down the loader as per some state DOT requirements. This may require multiple straps as each attached or loaded pieces must be strapped down.
12K pound tandem axle 20 foot trailer with brakes on both axles to safely haul that big CUT with bush hog, box blade etc

A BIG BANK LOAN TO BUY ALL THIS STUFF WITH
