Does anyone know the engine oil capacity on the 1720. Can't track down the manual. 4 quarts got the oil right in the middle of the dipstick but I recall it being 5 in the past. Thanks, Nick.

I owned one for 10 years and serviced it annually. 4 quarts is the number.

Thanks. What I did is put in a gallon, which I knew it took at least. And that was right in the middle of the dipstick.

So what is your concern? You are in the operating range. If you want to be towards the upper end of the operating range, add oil till you are at the top of the capacity range.

The dipstick is there for exactly that purpose. Use the information it is providing and move on.

My IT FO-46 shop manual for the Model 1720 capacities says:

Cooling System = 5.6 liters (5.9 US quarts)
Crankcase with Filter Change = 4.5 liters (4.8 US quarts)
Fuel Tank = 32 liters (8.5 US gallons)
Rear Axle & Transmission = 27 liters (28.5 US quarts)
Power Steering = 1.8 liters (1.9 US quarts)
Front Wheel Drive Axle = 5 liters (5.3 US quarts)

Interesting. I think if I actually put 4.8 in, it would be above the hatch marks on the dipstick.
