Ford F150-I'm Done.

This weekend I made a 500 mile trip to visit friends and noticed a lot of new F150 towing some rather large travel trailers and a few boats...

Was surprised that all but one were new F150 so the tow rating must have translated into sales.

It was 108F driving down highway 101 in California... decided to take Mom to dinner in Seaside about 20 minutes away on the coast... 65F with sunny and blue sky on the coast.

Out near my brothers place it was 111F which is most unusual for the SF Bay Area.

Thought with the heat I would see breakdowns along the drive... didn't see a one but a lot of new cars going places and seemed every truck was towing.

Just turned 28k on my 2016 F150 with the 3.5L EcoBoost. I'm a big diesel buff, and have driven many, many, many over close to 3 million miles. I've been looking to trade this King Ranch for a new Superduty, but I WILL NOT spend $75k on a truck... EVER!
I'm looking at used trucks with about 30,000 miles, and $45-$50k looks MUCH better. I love my F150, but I just bleed diesel and leave soot stains in my underwear. Not sure at this age how ready I am to give up the massaging seats, auto wipers and headlights, moonroof, power boards, cameras, etc. to go back to 13qt oil changes, Power Service, fuel filters, etc. I am looking at travel trailers, and my F150 isn't supporting my tongue weight desires, so I may NEED to trade. While I thought the EcoBoost may not be a 100k engine, mine sure is running clean, strong, quiet, and FAST. I change oil and filter every 3,500 miles, and I'm thinking maybe I should just run this one three years to 100k and then decide on a new one. It sure impresses me every day I drive it.

I wanted a F250 until the 2015 F150 came with a higher tow rating that would tow my loads. I'm very pleased with the 3.5EB. SuperDuty can't get the daily driver MPGs my F150 has spoiled me into having. My F250 desires have nearly went away.

My 2013 F-350 was tweaked and netted easy 19mpg, but the oil changes, fuel filters, potential issues inherent to the new diesels pushed me away. I loved the sound of it tweaked, though.
My loaded F150 can't come close to towing within the ratings with a family of four for a weekend of camping. That is if you care to watch the real numbers... payload, not tow ratings. I can pull 12,200# all day long, but that's not correct if you look at the reality to tow that much. By the book, it's an empty truck, only the 150# driver, and about 1,500# of tongue weight (at 13%). There goes my payload, and I have my DW, kids, and the dog sitting on the sidewalk with long faces.

Ours is also a half ton, so interesting that it went up in weight that much.

No clue about OP, but I'm up to 47,xxx miles on my 2015 3.5L ecoboost and it's been problem free. I've been averaging 19MPG with about 1000lbs of tools and supplies onboard, and towing various loads of between 3000 and 7000lbs most weekends.

My coworker has a VW Sharan van, 3 liter VR6 AWD and he gets the same average... :D
