Have been wanting another mower to replace/backup my 2006 Cub Cadet GT1554.
Unknown hours since the digital meter failed years ago. Guess is at least 900+, likely much more.
It's been a fantastic mower and no complaints (other than the known steering issues for this model).
New riding mowers are insanely expensive now. Almost $5k to get something comparable to the GT1554.
My brother just paid over $10k for a Ferris. Different class of mower I know, but no thanks.

Was web searching and found locally a 2007 GT1554 with only 21.1 hours on it.
It was garage kept and looks brand new, minus the light scrape marks on the deck side and the plastic chute had a very small tear at the hinge.
Mower was just serviced, including new battery, before she listed it and it included factory tire weights and tire chains.
Starts right up and it was even full of fuel.
Everything works and belts/Tires look good.

I wasn't looking for another GT1554, but grabbed it as soon as I saw it.

First thing I did was add SeaFoam to fuel and install a mechanical hour meter on the dash panel.
Not sure if she used blended fuel, but I will run pure gasoline from now on.
Best part, I don't have to stock parts for a different model/brand mower!
Will post pics soon

Hobbs Hour Meter
12v 60hz
Just tied it into the headlight wiring.
Works like a champ and when/if the digital meter fails, the mechanical meter will still be working.
Lots of China clones on eBay for not much $$.

The meter glass looks scratched.
It was just a protective covering that has been removed and looks great.

I have a couple of that model in the shop over the past few years that out of the blue the digital hour meter would reset to 0.

OK not to nit-pick, but that definitely is not a "mechanical" meter.

It apparently opertrats with 12V DC. How have you wired it so that it only runs when the engine is running ?

It is mechanical because it uses 12v to physically turn interior gears and wheels.
That’s how it’s referenced in the aviation, etc. world anyway.
I know what your talking about.

It’s tied into the headlight wires.
No switch and the headlights only work when the engine is running.

Don’t doubt that for a second.

In this case it’s clearly accurate because of the condition of everything.

May not be the case here, but be mindful that there are a lot of riding mowers that the headlights are wired AC straight off of the alternator/stator.

This particular meter is 12-60v
I did check with a DMM before tapping into the wires.

Also installed Philips LED headlight bulbs

Plenty of room for a nice clean install.
