Fun Time Installing Tire Chains

/ Fun Time Installing Tire Chains #11
Jimmer,

I see the Marylanders are up early this mornin! :D

To add to the thread, I have always let air out of my tires, then put chains on, air up and the inflation holds the chains on snug.

My question is this, what is their reason for saying leave th fronts loose?

On 4wd I could see them wanting to allow some slippage, but, for snow plowing, it should be slick enough to keep the 4wd from binding?

You see, because I live in (not Western) MD AND own a tractor, that means that 1) I work in the city and 2) I live in the country. So, during the normal week, I'm up at 4 to beat the traffic :)

I have never, ever heard of not putting tighteners on your fronts. In fact, when it comes to cars, I have always heard the exact opposite because you didn't want anything ripping your brake lines off.

If it were me, I'd have the fronts tight as I could get them.

Glad you brought up letting air our of the tires. I almost forgot about that. It's been so long since I've actually used my chains

Maybe I should get them put on the 4 wheeler this year (it's only 2wd).
