I would use a straight 90w gear oil for a mower.
Or even 75w90, 80w90 or something like that. Some guys in the hotter parts might want to use 75w140. The important thing is to make sure you've got gear oil in it when yo use it. I use mine about twice a year so it doesn't hurt to peek inside and check.

Ditto what 3rrl said. i like 85-140 in my generic gear boxes like owers and such.. especially in hot areas..
