Is the K71 the hydrostatic drive or the transmission, rear axle or what ?
I am new to this mower GX345.
What to look for to tell the condition of the hydrostatic, rear axle and transmission etc. ? Is there anything to tell what the condition of the motor is ? It does run fine and seems to be no problems but it doesn't hurt to know what to look for to make sure everything is good.
Is the hydraulic lift on this model good to be used with a snow blower or does it need an upgrade to give it more lift ?

The K-71 is the entire rearend/transmission. It is heavy duty and a good unit.

Look for signs of oil leaks etc, and check the trans level with the dipstick. the fluid should be a light golden color, almost clear. If it looks dark or dirty, change it and the filter ASAP. The instructions are in the manual. If you don't have a manual, order one from JD or go to their site and order one.

The hydraulics are designed to function everything the tractor is compatible with, ie; tiller, blower, blade, mower etc. No upgrade necessary. You may need to buy the lift assist kit though, if the tractor was never used with either a blower or blade. it is a one time install, and not too hard to do, though you may want the dealer top do it if you are not mechanically inclined. It is just a linkage and a few clevis's/pins, but the rear one can be a PITA if you've never done it before.
